Helen Maharaj

Helen Maharaj is a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist accredited by the BABCP.

She runs CBT Reflections, a service providing private therapy for adults who are experiencing problems including low mood, anxiety, depression, worry, OCD and PTSD using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Helen is an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist who enjoys working with people to empower them to achieve their goals.

Clinical Experience:

Helen has  many years experience of working in the NHS as a High Intensity CBT Therapist, Supervisor and Line Manager within a busy psychological therapies service.  She has experience of using CBT to help people experiencing common and complex mental health and physical health problems including depression, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobias, low self esteem, perfectionism, OCD, PTSD, chronic pain and chronic fatigue syndrome,  As well as slightly less common difficulties, such as excoriation disorder (skin picking), compulsive hoarding, and blood injury phobia.

She has experience providing CBT to individuals in person, over the telephone and in group settings.

Academic Experience:

Additionally Helen is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Surrey on the Advanced Practice in Psychological Wellbeing course. The course trains Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners to assess and treat patients experiencing depression and anxiety, using a low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach.  This is part of the government’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme.
