I qualified as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist in 2000 following an eight year training with the Arbours Association.
My working life in therapeutic care spans 30 years and includes the clinical management of therapeutic communities offering alternatives to mainstream psychiatric care and working with young adults in University counselling. In addition to my private practice I currently work for a training organisation offering clinical supervision.
Psychotherapy offers helpful interventions for the treatment of anxiety and depression and also offers the opportunity to think about, understand and improve relationships.
In addition, I have extensive experience with the therapeutic treatment of
- early trauma and its impact
- suicidal thoughts or feelings
- young adults
- the emotional impact of becoming a mother
- diagnosed mental health disorders
- crisis intervention
While in Higher Education I also developed a specialism in the psychology of learning. I offer short-term interventions to assist with managing educational pressure and developing effective study techniques.
I am a member of the UKCP and Arbours Association of Psychotherapists and practice under the UKCP Code of Ethics and Practice. I hold full professional indemnity insurance, an enhanced CRB check and am a fully accredited UKCP Supervisor.
I offer both long and short term therapy. Shorter term therapy may focus on a particular issue or life event. Longer term therapy is helpful in exploring deeper seated relational issues rooted in early life. These matters can be discussed in an initial consultation. There are times when a single therapeutic intervention is all that is needed to help gain a different perspective.
