What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal Medicine is medicine sourced from plants and is recognised as the oldest and most widely used system of medicine on Earth.  Considered holistic and integrative, Herbal Medicine aims to treat the cause of an illness and restore good health, rather than treat a symptom.

What can Herbal Medicine help with?

A medical herbalist can treat many of the same health concerns a GP treats, so it is impossible to list everything!  However, listed below are some commonly presented conditions. People using pharmaceutical medication can still use herbal medicine under the care of a qualified Medical Herbalist.

  • Digestive complaints including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), constipation, bloating, Irritable Bowel Disease (Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis).
  • Skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis and acne.
  • Musculo-skeletal complaints including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Respiratory conditions.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Stress and emotional issues.
  • Weight management.
